The levels of calcitonin gene related peptide of plasma of 108 patients with cerebrovascular disease were measured by radioimmunoassay The results showed that the level of plasma calcitonin gene related peptide in cerebral infarction group(62 cases)cut down more than that in control group The plasma calcitonin gene related peptide strated to decrease significantly in cerebral infarction group during the first day It decreased further on 1 to 3day and 4 to 7day,It started to increase from the eighth day,it was normal level after 15 day The level of plasma calcitonin gene related peptide in cerebral hemorrhage cut down more than that in control group The regular changs of plasma calcitonin gene related peptide in group of cerebral hemorrhage(46 cases)was as same as during day 15 It started to increase from day 15,but it was also lower than that in control group The results also showed that there was a significant correlation between the levels of plasma calcitonin gene related peptide and the patient's condition and the size of focus of infection of cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage This suggests calcitonin gene related peptide play a major role in pathophysiological and pathogenetic mechanisms of cerebral infarction and cerebral hemorrhage
