摘 要:本文认为,目前关于变译的研究还存在一些模糊不清的认识。相对于全译,变译作为翻译的变种(翻译变体),表现为边缘对核心的关系,作为方法或技巧,表现为互相包容的关系,作为边缘化的成员,表现为从量变到量变(而不是质变)的关系。变译和传统上的全译不是并立的一对概念,变译与传统所称的翻译变体既似又非。从译者行为的角度看,变译更适于说明译者参与社会的角色化过程。变译之名,有得有失。为名正言顺,事理明晰,这一概念必须跨过命名及其有效推论这道门槛。Present theoretical studies on bianyi,a coined Chinese term for translation variations,are still questionable.As translation products,bianyi is marginal as compared with quanyi,the Chinese term for complete translation.As translation skills,bianyi is in fact also used in quanyi.In terms of the extent of 'translating',bianyi involves only quantitative changes but not qualitative changes.Bianyi does not and can not stand side by side with quanyi due to the inborn logical fallacy.It is but a temporary term before its nature is defined clearly.To look at it from the view of the translator's behavior,it is safe at least to say that bianyi foregrounds the translator's role as a social entity since the factors behind translation variations are actually various social demands.In this sense,bianyi can be understood as the process of socialization of translation.In respect of academic studies,the term bianyi is both understandable and illogical,so the author suggests it be reconsidered.
