Objective To study the characteristics of coping style in patients with schizophrenia and to explore its differences between schizophrenic patients and healthy controls. Methods A total of 151 schizophrenic patients in study group and 151 healthy subjects well matched in gender, age and district in control group were enrolled in this study. All individuals were diagnosed with SCID-I-P and were assessed with Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ) and self-designed information questionnaire. Results Score of positive factors of SCSQ in study group was significantly lower than those in control group and the score of negative factors of SCSQ in study group was significantly higher than those in control group (P 〈 0.05 ). Both positive factors and negative factors showed significant differences among different types of work ( P 〈 0.05 ). Patients with disorganized schizophrenia showed the highest score of negative factor of SCSQ, while patients with paranoid schizophrenia showed the lowest. There was significant difference in the score of negative factor of SCSQ among all types of schizophrenia ( P 〈 0.01 ). Conclusion The coping style of patients with schizophrenia is different from that of healthy subjects.
