Identity politics is immanent to Chinese American literature. Chinese American literature is a locality where Chinese American identities are imagined, represented and constructed. The interpretation of its works is thus intensively invested with political significance, a process in which nationality and ethnicity continue with their encounter. Taking The Woman Warrior as an example, this paper is to illustrate the political elements with which the work has been associated in its interpretation and to expound the means conducive to the construction of ethnic identities in postmodern ethnic work.
