Objective To investigate the expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and Notch1 in the breast cancer tissues and the correlations with invasion and metastasis of breast cancer. Methods Immuno- histochemieal S-P method was used to detect the expressions of VEGF and Notch1 in 60 eases of breast cancer tis- sues and 20 cases of adjacent normal breast tissues, and the relationship between VEGF or Notch1 expressions and clinieopathologieal features of breast cancer was analyzed. Results The expressions of VEGF and Notch1 in breast cancer tissues were remarkably higher than those in the normal breast tissues ( P 〈 0.05 ). The expressions of VEGF in breast cancer were related with the lymph node metastasis, histological grade and clinical stage (P 〈 0.05 ). The expressions of Notehl in breast cancer were related with the lymph node metastasis and histological grade ( P 〈 0.05 ). The expressions of VEGF were positively correlated to the expressions of Notehl ( r = 0. 414, P = 0. 001 ). Conclusion VEGF and Notch1 may play the important role in the pathway of carcinogenesis and pro- gression of breast cancer, the up-regulation of VEGF and Notch1 expressions can predict the invasion and metastasis of breast cancer.
