摘　　要：白璧德新人文主义是对西方缺乏约束的现代性批判。白璧德认为近代西方文明扩张时代和内敛时代相互交替,自启蒙运动以来,西方文明丢弃了古典的和基督教的文化约束,而没有找到新的替代品。科学人道主义和情感人道主义泛滥,这两种类型的自然主义都否定了超理性区域,社会信仰缺失,离心力量使得人与人斗,阶级与阶级斗,最后是国家与国家斗。这是理性与信仰矛盾在西方现代转型时期的集中体现。面对美国的崛起,白璧德提出"创造标准"的新人文主义以引领社会,对当下中国的现代转型具有借鉴意义。Babbitt＇s humanism is a kind of criticism of modernity.This relates the Western alternative development of the era of expansion after the era of concentration.Babbitt mainly aims at the ills of the second Modern Movement with the expansion of individualism,embodied by the scientific humanitarianism and sentimental humanitarianism.Both of them deny the superrational region,which is the conflict between reason and faith.The eccentric power makes human against human,class against class,nation against nation.How to create standards is in Irving Babbitt＇s mind when America is rising in the world,and Babbitt＇s humanism is also of reference value to China.
