摘　　要：人类文明的类型多种多样,在古往今来的历史过程中,每每以族群和地域为边界呈现出彼此不同的特征。以此为前提,应把人类文明视为复数的可数现象,并在多样对等的基础上加以理解和比较。文章以剑桥大学教授Alan MacFarlane题为"理解他者文明"的演讲为个案,对不同族群间开展跨文化对话的意义进行了相关阐述。Various types of human civilizations feature differently in the course ol history according to ethnical groups and geographical boundaries. Based on that, human civilizations should be regarded as plural countable phenomena,so understanding of and comparison between them should be built on diversity and equality. By taking the speech ＂Understanding Other- ness＇ Civilization＂ by Cambridge University professor Alan Mac Farlane as a case,this article tries to expound the significance of cross--cultural dialogue between different ethnical groups.
