摘 要:语法化是语言演变的重要方面,是当代认知语言学关注的重要课题之一。本文运用语料库的研究方法,考察了中国学生英语作文中need和dare语法化情况,发现了中国英语学习者使用这两个情态动词的语法化特征。并且本文从认知过程的角度给出可能的解释——这是语义演变过程中出现的形式上的层积效应,即共时的变异反映历时的变化。本文力图在外语学习者语料中研究语法化这一特殊现象,其分析结果有助于英语教师在教学中帮助学习者习得情态动词的正确用法,提高学习者对情态动词意义与用法的敏感性。As an important aspect of linguistic change, grammaticalization has long been one of the important topics in contemporary linguistics (including cognitive linguistics). With a corpus-based approach, the grarnmaticalization of two marginal modals: need and dare is investigated in Chinese learners writing. By comparing the related figures from the learner corpora (WECCL) and the reference corpora, we can discover some distinctive features of using the two modals by Chinese EFL learners. We try to give an explanation to them--it is the result of the layering in form in the course of semantic change. That is, the synchronic variation of the two words reflects diachronic change. This thesis tries to give some insights into specific grammaticalization phenomena in Chinese EFL learners' English. The results gained from the quantitative and qualitative analysis can remind English teachers of what to be done in order to help learners make native-like selection of modals, and meanwhile to raise the learners' sensitivity to associate the right modal with the right sense in the target language.
