From Nanhua Temple to Guangxiao Temple:Reflections on Reading Matteo Ricci's Biography

摘　　要：叙述利玛窦在南华寺居住两天两夜的经过,探讨利玛窦回避南华寺的原因,并证明当初两广总督刘节斋指定利玛窦从肇庆前往南华寺,尔后允准他移居韶州光孝寺及在定居韶州的交涉中,与利玛窦和两广总督打交道的始终是韶州代理知府刘承范,韶州知府陈奇谋当时不在韶州,直到利玛窦获准定居韶州后才返回。This paper describes Matteo Ricci＇s two days and nights in Nanhua Temple, discusses the reason why he avoided this famous buddhist temple, and proves that it is Liu Jiezhai, Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi, who ordered Ricci go to Nanhua Temple from Zhaoqing, and then permitted him to settled down in Guangxiao Temple in Shaozhou. The paper also points out that in the period of negotiations, Liu Chengfan, Acting Prefect of Shaozhou, had played an unique and exclusive role to help Ricci, and Chen Qimou, Prefect of Shaozhou, had been absent and came back only after Ricci was allowed to transfer to Guangxiao Temple.
