Objective To investigate the protective effect of minidose capsaicine(Gap) on gastric mucosa injury after gastric ischemia-reperfusion in rats. Methods Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into sham- operated (Sham) group and gastric ischemia-reperfusion (GI-R) group, and the latter was randomly divided into two groups: Cap group and Cap control group (n =6,each group). Rats were sacrificed 24 h after GI-R model established or sham-operated, and gastric tissue was obtained. Gastric mucosal injury index was counted and standard by Guth under stereomicroscope. Histopathological changes in the gastric mucosa were investigated by HE staining under lightmicroscope. Results After GI-R, diffuse mucosal edema and bleeding point sheet erosion was found un- der stereomicroscope. Compare to Cap control group, Cap group exhibited mild injury. Guth scores of Sham group, Cap group and Cap control group were 3.20 ±1.81,31.12 ± 12.13 and 60.25 ±23.76, respectively. Score difference among the three groups was statistically significant ( P 〈 0.01, P 〈 0. 05 ). The pathological damage of Cap group was milder than Cap control group by HE staining. Conclusion Application of minidose Cap can reduce the gastric mucosal injury index in GI-R.
