摘 要:历史上并不注重外语学习、翻译活动长期依靠外来译者的中国,进入近代社会之后面临西方列强的入侵,产生了对本土译者的迫切需求,外语教学在各式新学堂中得到重视,并逐渐被纳入官方学制。外语教学的逐步开展为培养具有双语能力的本土译者奠定了基础,推动了中国翻译模式从传统的西译中述向中译中述过度,并最终转型为本土译者独立翻译的现代模式。With a long translation tradition that major translation activities depended heavily on foreign translators, the Chinese culture had not paid much attention to the learning of foreign languages until the early modern times when China was threatened by the western powers and a demand for indigenous translators became pressing. Thereafter foreign language teaching was included in the new schools' curriculum and gradually became part of the official edu- cational system. The gradual development of foreign language teaching helped the training of indigenous translators with bilingual abilities possible, which witnessed the transformation of translation models from traditional to modern in early modern China.
