论翻译文体学视域下典籍英译的文体选择与翻译策略

摘　　要：典籍英译译者翻译的过程其实就是进行文体选择的过程。译者基于自身的背景知识,采用相应的翻译把自己的信息意图通过文体选择传达给译语读者。译者采用何种翻译策略并不重要,重要的是译语读者基于译者的文体选择进行逆证推理所获得的关于译者信息意图的一系列设想与原语读者基于原作者的文体选择进行逆证推理所获得的关于原作者信息意图的一系列设想是否一致。如果译者不仅保留了原作者的信息意图,而且其文体选择给译语读者的推理距离与原作者文体选择给原语读者的推理距离基本一致,其译文即可被认为是忠实于原交际行为的翻译。While the translator is engaged in translating Chinese classical works, he is actually involved in the rea- soning process of making the stylistic choice. Based on his background knowledge, the translator should adopt ap- propriate translation strategies and convey his informative intention to target language readers by means of the choice of style. However, it doesn＇t matter what kind of translation strategies the translator should apply. What matters most is whether target language readers can infer the set of assumptions intended to make manifest to the source language readers by the author from the translator＇ s choice of style in accordance with abductive reasoning. If the translator not only retains the author＇ s informative intention but also makes the choice of style in his transla- tion which could keep an equal inferential distance between the source language readers and the target language readers in pursuit of the author＇s informative intention, his translation will be regarded as faithful to the original communication as a whole.
