摘　　要：从语用学角度讨论了英语指示代词this和that的功能 ,分析了作为指示语之一的this和that的指示型和非指示型、手势型和象征型用法及this和that的不同指示功能。从而阐明了包括this和that在内的指示语同语境的密切关系。只有在具体的语境下 。This article discusses the function of English demonstrative pronoun 'this' and 'that' from pragmatic point of view. It analyzes the deictic and non deictic usage, gestural and symbolic usage of 'this' and 'that' and the different deictic functions of 'this' and 'that' .It states that deictic expressions such as 'this' and 'that' are usually closely connected with context. Only in a specific context can we understand what the deictic expressions refer to.
