An Experimental Study on Attitude of Students from Ethnic University toward the Second Language Learning——Taking English Learning of Muslim University Students Majoring in Arabic as an Example

摘  要:二语习得研究结果表明,二语学习者对目标语人群及其文化的消极态度会影响其二语学习的积极性和学习效果。通过调查某民族院校阿拉伯语专业穆斯林大学生对英美人群及其文化所持态度对其英语学习所产生的影响,发现虽然穆斯林大学生对英美人群及其文化持消极态度,但其英语学习态度仍比较积极,学习效果也并未因此受到明显影响,其原因是语言类专业的大学生能充分认识到二语学习的重要性而不被文化态度所制约。Research findings in SLA indicate that positive attitude of L2 learners toward the target language group and culture will produce positive influence upon L2 learning, or vice versa. This study investigates the attitude of Muslim university students majoring in Arabic toward British and American people and culture and the influence of their attitude upon English learning. The research findings reveal that Muslim students hold a negative attitude toward British and American people and culture. However, their attitude toward English leaning is positive and their English proficiency is better than the controlled group. The possible reason is that the subjects are students majoring in Arabic language. Therefore, they know the significance of learning a second language and their enthusiasm to learn another language is not affected by their cultural attitude.
