英语世界里中国现当代文学研究的格局与批评范式

摘　　要：将中国文学引入西方世界的译介活动早在晚清时期就已开始,但直到20世纪60年代夏志清的著作《中国现代小说史》问世,海外汉学界的研究视野才开始从古典文学转向现代文学,致力于作品分析以及文学史、文学选集的编撰。一些文学选集被作为美国高校的教学参考书,成为普及中国文学的有效途径;以夏志清、王德威、李欧梵等为代表的海外汉学研究,在方法论和历史观上为中国内地的现当代文学研究提供了某些新的可能性。但不应忽视的是,作为一个复杂的构成体,海外汉学研究的面貌不能仅以代表性学者的论断来框定,将海外汉学研究的理论思维套用于中国现当代文学时也需要对历史语境与现实状况差异导致的认识偏误进行反思,西方学者在冷战思维影响下的文学批评范式以及英美反知性主义传统对五四以来作家创作心态的误读也需要正确认识。虽然英美主流媒体仍习惯沿用这种批评模式解读中国当代小说,但20世纪80年代以后的研究也呈现出一系列理论范式的转向,显示出重建文化研究格局的趋势。The translation and introduction of Chinese literature to the Western world can date back to the late Qing Dynasty. However,it is not until the 1960 s when XIA Zhi-qing published A History of Modern Chinese Fiction,his landmark work,did Western sinologists begin to shift their interests from classical Chinese literature to modern literature,engaging in not only academic studies,but also compilation of literary history and anthologies. Some anthologies are used as the textbooks in American universities,which is an effective way to spread Chinese literature. In the meanwhile,leading sinologists such as XIA Zhi-qing,David Dewei Wang and Leo Ou-Fan Lee,have provided new perspectives for the studies of modern Chinese literature in China's Mainland in both methodology and historical views. Overseas sinology,nevertheless,is a complicated matter,which cannot be expressed simply by a few well-known scholars. Besides,when applying their theoretical frameworks,their misunderstanding or bias should not be ignored,which are caused by the gap between Chinese historical context and their social reality. Looking back on the history of overseas research of modern Chinese literature,it is inferred how Chinese writers were judged from their political stance by anti-intellectualism. Even to this day,the mainstream media of the US and the UK still use those mindsets to review contemporary Chinese literature. Since the 1980 s,however,the paradigm of academic studies has undergone a series of shifts,with a tendency of reconstructing the patterns of cultural studies.
