简洁平易,形神俱肖——华兹生《论语》英译本评鉴

摘　　要：美国汉学家华兹生的《论语》英译本语言简洁平易,生动传神,在语言形式和艺术格调方面都同原文有很高程度的对应。从遣词、造句、修辞及文化专有项的处理等四个方面详细论述华兹生译本的特色,同时也指出了华译中存在的诸如理解原文失当等问题。华兹生译本值得我们借鉴和学习之处不仅在于译者精湛醇熟的译笔,更在于他对再现原文艺术特色和文化元素所做的努力及从中折射出的对源语文化应有的尊重。Burton Watson＇s English version of The Analects is couched in plain and pithy English, resembling to a high degree the original text in both form and style. This paper gives a detailed discussion of the prominent features of Watson＇s translation in terms of diction, syntax, figures of speech and culture-specific items. Watson＇s masterly translation skill is worth studying, also his respect for the source culture embodied in his effort to convey the artistic flavor and cultural elements of the original text is praiseworthy.
