摘　　要：克里斯托弗·凯利教授认为,卢梭是试图复兴古典思想中的好东西的第一位现代政治哲学家。在卢梭看来,民主不是一种工具理性,而是本身即善的价值理性。卢梭深刻思考了什么是最好的生活方式。卢梭与康德的关系和卢梭关注幸福构成了美国卢梭研究的两个重要方面。卢梭最重要的概念是自然之善和生存感。在卢梭那里,哲学与政治共同体的关系是一个很复杂的问题。卢梭的困境在于他试图实现共同体与个体内在生命的同一性,克服社会与个体之间的张力。卢梭研究的适切方法是不要预设任何前提判断,而是只有通过对卢梭文本的整体细读才能发现卢梭思想的当代意义及启示。Professor Christopher Kelly thought that Rousseau was the first modern political phi- losopher who tried to rejuvenate the good things in classical thoughts. To Rousseau, democracy is not a type of instrumental rationality, but value rationality. He is important because he had thought deep- ly what a good life is. The relationship between Rousseau and Kant （Rousseau＇s main interest lay in building the moral base） and Rousseau＇s attention to happiness are two focuses in American Rousseau study. Rousseau＇s most important concepts are natural goodness and sense of existence. To him, the relationship between philosophy and political community is a very sophisticated problem. His dilemma lay in his attempt to achieve the identity of inner life between community and individuals and overcome the tension between society and individuals. Professor Kelly thought that there should be no pre de termined methods in Rousseau study, and only a close reading of Rousseau＇s writings can help readers discover the contemporary meaning and enlightenment of Rousseau＇s thoughts.
