摘　　要：中国大学的文化性格是中国大学以中国文化为根基所形成的使中国大学之为中国大学的根本性特征。从文化的角度看,中国大学在本质上并非只是横向移植西方大学模式的一类集教学、科研和社会服务职能于一体的社会机构,而是以中国文化为根基区别于任何其他国家大学机构的文化实体。立足文化的视角,中国大学的文化性格自晚清以来已有百余年的历史,在不同的历史时期时代合理性与历史局限性兼具。当前从高等教育发展的现实出发,中国大学文化性格之再塑不但必要而且可能;未来中国大学文化性格的理想构建在于回归大学之道,复兴中国悠久的人文传统,保障知识分子的主导地位,以促成"中国大学模式"的形成。The Chinese university＇s cultural character which is based on the Chinese culture is the fundamental feature to make Chinese universities keep essential.From cultural perspective,the Chinese university is not only a social institution which integrates the functions of teaching,scientific research and social service which are transplanted from the western university model,but a cultural entity which is based on Chinese culture and different from any other national university institutions.Chinese cultural character has been developed for more than one hundred years since the late Qing dynasty which manifested time rationality and historic limitations in different periods.In view of the present condition of the higher education development,it is not only necessary but also quite possible to rebuild the cultural character of Chinese university today.Chinese university should return to the university ideology,revive the long cultural tradition and establish the core position of intellectuals to build the＂Chinese university model＂.This is the way to foster the ideal model of cultural character for Chinese university in the future.
