From the comparative study of English and Chinese duplicatives, we find that English reduplicative words are far less than their Chinese counterparts. Besides,Chinese duplicatives can be formed in a variety of ways while English reduplicative words can only be created by limited means. In addition, Most English duplicatives are used in spoken language and slang, while Chinese reduplicative words are not only applicable to spoken language, but also suitable for the written language as well as for literary works. Furthermore, both English and Chinese reduplicative words have rich and colorful pragmatic functions, but most English duplicatives are pejorative in sense in contrast with Chinese reduplicative words 'multiple semantic colors.
