摘　　要：侯外庐长期从事教育事业,特别是作为新中国最早的大学校长之一,面对如何办好新中国高等教育的重大挑战,他提出了具有鲜明新民主主义特征的教育思想,阐明了大学在教学、科研、师资、学科和使命等方面的发展理念,论述了大学人才培养的思想观念与方式方法,并进行了颇富创造性的探索实践,致力于中国教育发展道路的开拓,取得了具有全国性影响的教育成就,展现出广阔的世界眼光和高度的文化自信,至今受到广泛赞誉。Engaging in education career for a long period, Hou wailu, as one of the earliest university presidents in New China, was facing a huge challenge in constructing high edu- cation in the nascent republic. He presented the educational idea with distinct characteristics of the new democratic culture, and illuminated the developmental philosophy on education, research, faculty, discipline and duty of university. He also expounded the concept and method of university talent cultivation. With his creative exploration, Hou gained the national achievements and revealed a broad vision and high self-confidence in culture, which made him widely praised up to now.
