摘 要:"诚"是《中庸》的一个最高概念,是宇宙天道的本体与本源。"诚"为天道,也为人道。思诚或做到诚,是《中庸》的又一个基本内涵,指人道与天道合一。如何才能做"诚"?《中庸》强调,这是一个"自诚明"与"自明诚"的功夫,同时要做到率性向善,择善而固执之。"诚"的境界在圣人那里得到了最好的体现。圣人因其至诚,所以能够完全发挥自己内在的本性,使人性的本质得到彰显。"Cheng", as the highest concept in Zhongyong (The Doctrine of the Mean, (中庸))), is the noumenon and source of the way of the Universe. "Cheng" is the way of heaven,as well as the proper way of becoming human. To think about "Cheng"or to practice it is another connotation of Zhongyong, which means the unity of the way of heaven and the way of becoming human. How to be "Cheng", Zhongyong emphasizes that where there is"Cheng", there is understanding; where under- standing, there is "Cheng". Meanwhile, it requires us to draw out those natural tendencies, choose and struggle for the good, as well as stick to it firmly. The state of "Cheng" is embodied by the sage, who can develop his nature completely, and make it manifested through his creativity.
