Both Wuthering Heights written by British woman writer Emily in 19th century and The Great Gatsby written by American male writer Fitzgerald in 20^th century are literary classics. In these two novels, parts of the stories are remarkably similar, yet kind of different. This essay uses gender poetics to analyze male description in these two novels by comparing the writers' viewpoints on male characters and then explores the reasons: different life experiences and social background. This essay tries to reveal that these two writers' objective observation and lenient concern on male expand the spiritual space of literature: the harmony of male and female is the destination of human beings' life voyage.
