摘 要:孟子言善有两个层面的内涵:一是从具体经验事实层面而言的"善行";另一则是从内在根源层面而言的"善根"。孟子言性和善的内涵是一致的,与善相应,孟子言性也有两个层面的内涵:一是落实为具体事相层面的仁义礼智之性,另一则是能够成就仁义礼智之性的为善的能力之性。孟子言性和善所具有的两个层面的内涵决定了孟子性善也具有两个层面的内涵:一是从为善的能力之性和"善根"出发而言的性善立本论,为成就道德奠立可靠的根基;二是从仁义礼智之性和"善行"出发而言的性善存养论,解决现实道德的养成。Two aspects are included in understanding Mencius's theory on " goodness" : one refers to "good action"concerning facts and practical experiences, and the other refers to "good roots'involving internal origin. The connotation of human nature is consistent with that of goodness in Meneius views. Thus, human nature should be interpreted in two sides at the same time:the "four beginnings" as hu- manity,righteousness,propriety and wisdom shown in practical events by people and the capability to realize the "four beginnings". Combining the understanding on Mencius theories on human nature and goodness, his view of innate goodness should be clarified in two levels:the basic theory of innate good- ness in consideration of the "good roots" and the ability to be good, laying a solid foundation to realize morality; the existence and cultivation theory arising from the"four beginnings'and"good action" ,help-ing cultivate morality.
