As one of the foremost contemporary writers in American literature, Alice Walker speaks of her A- merican Indian consciousness in her interviews and autobiographical essays, which is frequently illuminated in much of her published works, especially in her fictions. However, most of the foreign and domestic critics re- strained their researches on Alice Walker within the frame of the black female literature and labeled Alice Walker and her works as "womanist" and "womanist works", neglecting the influence of her Indian con- sciousness on her spirits and writings. It is believed that Alice Walker's Indian consciousness along with wom- anist thoughts constructs Alice Walker's spiritual world and shapes her writing patterns.
