摘 要:if条件句是英语学术论文中的重要表意资源。在Carter-Thomas和Rowley-Jolivet提出的if条件句的"宏观功能"概念基础上,对照自建的研究生学位论文语料库中if条件句的特征和Carter-Thomas和Rowley-Jolivet的研究结果发现,高情态化是研究生使用if条件句的主要特征,他们通过if条件句实现预测、推荐、和模糊功能,而Carter-Thomas和Rowley-Jolivet的研究则认为,if条件句在学术论文中主要实现的是呈现事实的功能。研究表明,研究生对if条件句在学术写作中的功能和形式了解不足,因而对研究生学术论文写作的教学更要强调语言的语篇功能。If-conditionals are important meaning resources in academic writing. Based on the concept of i macrofunction ' proposed by Carter-Thomas & Rowley-Jolivet, this paper explores the features of if-conditionals in a corpus of the thesis of postgraduates, and makes a comparison between the results of this study and that of Carter-Thomas & Rowley-Jolivet. It has been found that if-conditionals in postgraduates' writing are highly modalized. In this sense, postgraduates use if-conditionals to predict, to recommend, and to hedge, which is completely different from results presented by Carter-Thomas & Rowley-Jolivet to present facts. It is demonstrated that some postgraduates have some difficulties in using if-conditionals properly in thesis writing. Thus, the relationship between gram- matical constructions and their discoursal functions should be the focus of teaching of academic writing for postgraduates.
