There are various types of metaphors and metonymy in Chinese and English proverbs. According to L & J conceptual metaphor theory and Radden & Kovecses metonymy classification, they can be classified and analyzed. By analyzing the differences of Chinese and English proverbial metaphors, it can be seen that the metaphor in Chinese proverbs is more repetitive and ambiguous than English proverbs, and is more easily misunderstood and transformed. At the same time, in the aspects of phonetic metaphor and grammatical metaphor English proverbs are also biased.
