摘　　要：约瑟芬·巴尔默的《拼接断编残简》一书论述的是古典诗歌的翻译与研究、当代诗歌的创作,以及两者的关系。作者系统阐述了翻译西方古典诗歌的特殊困难所在、重译西方古典诗歌的必要性、翻译西方古典诗歌应如何处理创造性与学术性的关系,以及西方古典诗歌翻译对当代英语诗歌创作的促进作用等诸多问题。巴尔默通过她本人的翻译和创作实践重新划定了翻译与创作的界限,她的诗歌作品不仅展现了古典诗歌的永恒生命力,也增强了当代诗歌创作的表现力。此书对于我们思考翻译的本质以及如何做到古为今用都有很好的借鉴作用。Josephine Balmer＇s Piecing Together the Fragments is about the translation and study of classical poetry, the creation of contemporary poetry, and the relationship between the two. Balmer elaborates on such issues as the specific difficulties of translating classical poetry, the necessity of retranslating classical poetry, how to deal with the relationship between creativity and research in translating Western classical poetry, and how translating classical poetry inspires and promotes the creation of contemporary poetry. Through a detailed description of her practice in translating and writing poetry, Balmer redefines the boundary between translation and creation. Her work not only manifests the vitality of classical poetry but adds to the expressiveness of contemporary poetry. This book helps us to reconsider the nature of translation and how ancient works can contribute to the creation of contemporary literature.
