As a pioneer of the Han fu(rhapsody,a kind of rhymed prose prevalent in the Han dynasty[206 BCE-220 CE]),not only did the structure and contents of Mei Sheng's(d.140 BCE)Qi fa have a clear stamp of the age-old custom of calling back the spirit of the dead, but also possess an ingenious conception, which embodies the philosophical idea of a seven-day cycle of waxing and waning of yin and yangforces conceived in the hexagram Fu [,Return,24].The course that the guest from the state of Wu follows when telling the prince of the State of Chuthe seven events,in order to cure his diseases, was a not only a course of calling back the spirit of the dead based on the custom popular in the state of Chu,but also a course of a circular return of the waxing and waning of yin or yangforces within seven days.On this account, not only had Qi fa evidently adopted textual contents from Qu Yuan's(c.342-278 BCE)Da zhao and Zhao hun,but also reflected the concepts of"returning to a former residence","returning to a good way","rebirth of the yang energy",and"returning on the seventh day"conceived in the hexagram Fu of the Zhou yi.Actually,Qi fa signifies the cyclical rebirth of the yang energy.
