摘　　要：本文通过考察熊式一在1934年对传统京剧《王宝钏》(红鬃烈马)的英译,发现译者在改译成英语话剧Lady Precious Stream的过程中塑造出一个与原作"王宝钏"性格形象不同的"王宝川"。本文尝试通过京剧剧本和英语话剧剧本的对比,展现熊式一在翻译中对人物情节和语言的改写,并结合当时的海外媒体评论讨论这种形象重塑的效果,希望对中国文化外译有所启迪。S. I. Hsiung＇ translated play Lady Precious Stream became a hit when it debuted in London in 1934. As a translation of traditional Chinese Peking Opera, Hsiung reshaped the character of the heroine by adding and deleting plots and lines in his translation. This paper focuses on the image comparisons between Wang Baochuan in Peiking Opera and Precious Stream in Lady Precious Stream, trying to discuss the motives of the translator, the reviews in London and why this play is a successful translation.
