摘 要:形式主义文学理论把文学看成是语言的特殊运用与情节的特别安排。语言与形式的陌生化叙事技巧是俄国形式主义文学理论的重要特征,其目的是让作品的事物变形、变陌生,改变主体的习惯感知和心理定势,使主体在对客体的审美过程中获得全新体验。语言文体与情节机构的陌生化或异化是《红字》中一个突出的叙事艺术。这一艺术手法在《红字》里的巧妙运用不但增强了作品的张力和含混,使读者对故事的理解延宕,创造文学作品的审美距离,强化故事的文学美学效果,提升了作品的文学价值和艺术感染力,而且也让作者和作品免于社会道德谴责与学界的封杀。Formalism treats literature as the special use of language and the particular arrangement of plots. The defamiliarization of language and form as a narrative art is an important part of Russian Formalism. Its purpose is to transform the objects in the works, make them strange, and change the subject’s habitual perception and psychological pattern so that the subject can have a new experience at the course of aesthetic understanding. The defamiliarized language and form is an outstanding artistic technique in The Scarlet Letter. The technique is subtly adopted by Hawthorne in his The Scarlet Letter,which increases its literary aesthetic functions and enhances the expression force of the themes. His adoption of defamiliarization in the novel not only reinforces the tension and ambivalence, lengthen the readers’ perception and finally upgrade its literary value and artistic appeals, but serves to free the author and the work from social moral condemnation and the ban from the academic circle.
