摘  要:Mental discipline是民国时期由严复从西方教育哲学中引入的概念,它蕴含着西方经典的教育价值取向。迄今为止,国内学者采取的译名有缮性、心智训练、智力训练以及心灵陶冶。缮性等译名既有其产生的学术史土壤,亦包含了译者对于教育的价值期待,然其合宜性有待商榷。相较而言,心智形塑一词,规避了训练的严苛和机械之涵义,其在教育方向、方式和教育对象的涵义方面更贴合原词。Mental discipline is a concept,which was introduced from the West educational philosophy by Yan Fu in the period of the Republic of China.So far,the domestic scholars have take some translated terms containing Shanxing,Xinzhi xunlian,Zhili xunlian,and Xinling taoye.Such blurred situation needs to be further research and clarification.The translated terms,such as Shanxing and the others,not only have the produced soil of the academic history,but also contain the expectations of the translators toward the value of education.In contrast,the term of Xinzhi xingsu,which avoids the harsh and machinery meaning of the term of Xunlian,fits more closely into the meaning of the original term in the aspects of the direction,mode and object of education.
