国际移民视域下的“Diaspora”话语:概念反思与译介困境

摘　　要："Diaspora"一词原指流落到世界各地的犹太人,后来历经了一个语义拓展和内涵重构的流变过程,并在上世纪60年代中叶开始被西方学界逐渐用以指代跨越国界且维系祖籍国联系的当代国际移民群体。国内研究者处理该术语概念时译名纷呈,这在很大程度上影响了相关理论的引介与中西对话。这一译介困境从根本上关涉跨文化认识论和文化翻译问题,因此通过将"diaspora"与"国际移民"概念的并置对比,从文化翻译视野审视其译名,进而倡议将其译名厘定为"离散族裔",有助于廓清当下国际移民研究的群体范围与复杂性,促进国内对于海外移民族群文化的研究。“Diaspora,”capitalized and without modifier,refers specifically to the dispersion of the Jewish people all over the World.This term,however,underwent a great semantic change in the middle of the 1960s when more contemporary immigrants of various ethnic origins moved across territories to the western nations.Since then,it has been transformed into an academic term that refers to international immigrants and their descendants,who live in their host countries while keeping spatial and temporal connections with their home countries.Chinese scholars endorse and introduce this concept but have yet to reach consensus on its Chinese translation.Difficulties in accurate translation of this terminology is essentially cross-cultural and epistemological,which has to a certain degree hampered the diaspora studies in China.Comparing and contrasting“diaspora”with“international immigration”in both the Chinese and the English contexts,this paper will explore its semantic changes in the western context and clarify its translation in the Chinese context.Smooth dialogues amongst scholars in the Chinese and international academia rely on terminology transfer and accurate translation to overcome cultural hurdles and reach mutual understandings.Therefore,this paper proposes that translating diaspora into li-san-zu-yi is more faithful to its original connotations in English,which also helps showcase a new perspective of international immigrant research and ethnic studies.
