摘　　要：叶公超是民国时期一位有影响力的英文教授。在其十四年的教学生涯中,他广涉多门文学课程教学,深受学生欢迎。他在文艺批评方面学有所专,强调文学批评应注意理论与实践相结合。他客观地分析了当时英文系教学中存在的一些问题,重视语言基本功训练,并提出了语言与文学分系的建议。他的这些想法既顾及到当时社会需求,也考虑到外语学科发展。他担任一些知名文学刊物主编,鼓励并提携有文学潜力的学生步入文学创造与研究领域。回顾与梳理叶公超外语教育思想以期能为当前高校英语专业教育提供一定借鉴。YE Gongchao was one of the most influential English professors in the period of Republic of China.During his fourteen years'teaching career,he taught many courses of English major,receiving a great popularity among students.He was an expert in literary theory criticism and he stressed the combination of theory and practice in literary theory.He objectively pointed out the existed problems of English major teaching in his article and attached significant importance to the teaching of English language skills.He even put forward the proposal of separating English language department from English literature department.His considerations covered the contemporary social demand and the development of discipline.He was a mentor and companion of his students for his frequent communication with them.The students with literary potential are greatly motivated by YE Gongchao to pursue their literary writing and research.The review of YE Gongchao's foreign language thoughts might be helpful for offering some useful implications for today's English major teaching in Chinese universities.
