Study on Non-English Major Postgraduates’ Foreign Language Ability: A Questionnaire Analysis Based on Learners’ Needs

摘  要:通过基于学习者需求的问卷调查,分析了东北某高校379名硕士研究生的外语能力现状、对外语教学的满意度以及对未来外语教学的期望。结果表明:研究生的英语学习动机整体较弱,具有功利性取向;对自己的英语能力总体评价不高,习得最感吃力的技能为听力和口语;与自我英语能力评价偏低相比,他们对硕士阶段的英语学习满意度较高,特别是在教师能力水平、教学模式与手段、教学资源提供等方面。同时,对于未来应着重发展的外语技能和提升的学习环境,受试也给出了具体的期望。Through a questionnaire based on learners’needs,this paper analyses the status quo of foreign language ability,satisfaction with foreign language teaching and expectations for future foreign language teaching of 379 postgraduates in a Northeast university.The results show that the overall motivation of postgraduates is weak and utilitarianism-oriented.On the whole,their self-evaluation of English ability is not high,among which listening and speaking skills are the most difficult skill to acquire.Compared with the low self-assessment of English ability,they are more satisfied with their current postgraduate English learning,especially in such aspects as teacher quality,teaching modes and methods,and the provision of teaching resources.At the same time,they also provide specific expectations for the future development of foreign language skills and the improvement of learning environment.
