摘 要:阿瑟·韦利是20世纪英国著名汉学家、翻译家。韦利的汉诗英译作品被收入数种重要的英语诗歌选集,极大地推动了中国古典文学进入世界文学杰作之林的进程。韦利的汉诗英译之所以成功,其影响因素多种多样。从译诗文本构成要素来看,韦利对节奏的探索功不可没,也因之奠定了其在诗坛与译坛的地位。本文基于韦利的节奏观,从直译汉诗及其节奏、借鉴与创新汉诗节奏、重音节奏的形成三个方面探析韦利译诗节奏探索的全过程,阐述韦利译诗的节奏特色及其诗学文化价值。Arthur Waley is a celebrated British sinologist and translator of the 20 th century. His poetry translation from Chinese to English has been anthologized in a number of influential collections of English poetry, which greatly helps to spread and canonize classical Chinese literary works in the circle of world literature masterpieces. His resounding success in Chinese-English poetry translation is attained due to several factors at work. Viewed from the elements of poetry, his efforts to explore different forms of rhythm in his poetry translation merit increased attention, which justifies his unique position in the fields of poetry writing and translation. Based on Arthur Waley’s viewpoint of rhythm, this paper presents a detailed analysis of how he explores different forms of rhythm in his poetry translation from perspectives of translating Chinese poems and their rhythms literally, recreating forms of rhythm from Chinese poems and advancing sprung rhythm. It aims to clarify the distinctive features of rhythm in Arthur Waley’s poetry translation and his contributions to the development of poetic and cultural frontiers.
