古代服饰文化词汇英译研究从“头”道来——以登特-杨父子译《水浒传》中“巾”的翻译为例

摘　　要：古代中国是有名的“衣冠古国”,服饰穿戴有着深刻文化内涵。研究文化翻译,对服饰文化翻译研究必不可少,这样的研究对外国读者了解中国文化和中国服饰文化具有现实意义,有利于推动中国文化“走出去”。《水浒传》是中国四大名著之一,小说不仅塑造了众多独具个性的英雄形象,书中人物服饰描写也耐人寻味。从登特-杨父子译《水浒传》(英文名:The Marshes of Mount Liang)中“巾”的翻译入手,探讨登特-杨父子的译文在展现原文服饰文化上的得与失。研究发现,译者对于“巾”的翻译存在前后不一致现象,并多处误译,对中国服饰文化的翻译处理较随意。Ancient China was known as a famous state of“yiguan”(clothes and hat).The wear of apparels and accessories had a profound cultural connotation.The study of Chinese apparel and accessory culture is a supplement to the study of Chinese culture.Such research has practical significance for foreign readers to understand Chinese culture and Chinese apparel and accessory culture,and is conducive to promoting Chinese culture to“go global”.Shui Hu Zhuan(known as Water Margin in Western countries)is one of the four famous Chinese classics.The novel not only created many heroes with unique personality and vivid images but also provided its readers with a wide range of research materials on apparels and accessories worn by its heroes.This thesis starts with the translation of“jin”(turban)in the Dent-Youngs’translation of Shui Hu Zhuan(with English name of The Marshes of Mount Liang),and explores the gains and losses of Dent-Youngs’translation of the original apparel and accessory culture.It is found that the translators use different phrases or words to translate one term,and there exists many mistranslations.It is thus concluded that the translators do not take Chinese apparel and accessory culture seriously enough.
