摘 要:英国小说作家亨利·莱特·哈葛德的小说在中国的接受是一个成功的跨文化传播案例。译者、出版商和读者是其中最为关键的三个因素。林纾作为译者,一方面在文化层面的冲突中为哈葛德的小说精神正名,另一方面在语言翻译层面进行了本土化的归化翻译,为其作品的跨文化传播奠定了基础。商务印书馆作为"赞助人"选择了最出色的译者合作,全面立体地为之进行营销宣传,为传播开辟了道路。在当时读者"期待视野"的转变过程中,受众对哈葛德的作品的广泛接受和评论进一步提升了它的地位,促进了它的成功传播。It is a successful case of intercultural communication that the novels from an English novelist,Henry Rider Haggard,are accepted by Chinese readers.In the process,three main factors play the key role:the translator,publisher and readers.As the translator of Haggard’s novels,Lin Shu has had two important contributions,one is that he justified the spirit of Haggard’s novel in cultural conflicts;the other is he localized the language in the novels by domesticating translation,both of which has laid a foundation for the intercultural communication of the fictions.The Commercial Press,as a patronage,has chosen to cooperate with the best translator and spared no effort in promoting these books,which has opened the way for the cross-cultural communication.And during the transformation of the reader’s horizon of expectations in that period,numerous readers well received and commented on Haggard’s novels,which further raised their status and promoted their successful transmission.
