摘 要:陈训正虽通过攀缘科场阶梯而脱离社会底层,却不但早于中举前,就已在《宁波白话报》上宣传新式教育,且此后又因缘际会,始则受邀主持专门收教堕民的育德初等农工学校,继尔协助宁波知府喻兆蕃,大力推广新式学堂。尽管如此,仍不宜高估陈训正对近代宁波教育的贡献。这是因为,不但宁波工校、佛教孤儿院在其主持校务期间长期经费紧张甚至难以为继,且其教育理念既不完整、系统,又多非原创。Chen Xunzheng had already promoted the modern education in Ningbo Vernacular Daily before he passed the imperial examination by which he rose to the top social strata.Later,he was invited to take charge of the Yude Agricultural and Industrial School,which was dedicated to the education for people in the lowest social strata.He also assisted Yu Zhaofan,the Magistrate of Ningbo,to vigorously promote the modern style of school.Nevertheless,it is not appropriate to overestimate Chen Xunzheng’s contribution to the modern Ningbo education because the Ningbo Technical School and the Buddhist Orphanage were chronically in short of funds and even unsustainable during the period when he was in charge of them.Meanwhile his educational philosophy was incomplete,not systematic and mostly unoriginal.
