高校校名英译探析——以湖南省为例

摘　　要：对湖南省125所高校校名英译情况调查发现,由于高校合并更名频繁,过于强调办学规模,对校名英译缺乏规范管理等原因,以致其英译混乱。学校应避免刻意创新,采用直译优先、兼顾灵活的方式,依靠行政主管部门规范管理,确保高校校名英译的准确性和规范性,以使目的语受众易于接受。A survey from 125 colleges and universities in Hunan province shows that the English translation of its names is various due to the frequent merging and renaming-names of universities,the over-emphasis on the scale of running schools and the lack of standardized management.Therefore,the schools should adopt the method that is priority to literal and flexible translation,and also rely on administrative authorities to regulate management instead of deliberate innovation,which aim to ensure the accuracy and standardization of the translation of the names for colleges and universities into English,meanwhile,the target language audience can easily accept it.
