摘 要:提起“信达雅”,学界一贯认为“信”是指“忠实于原文”,“达”是“通顺、畅达”,“雅”是“高雅、文雅”。基于对严复《天演论·译例言》的重新解读,得出结论:“信达雅”的真实内涵并非学界所认为的那样,严复“达旨”的翻译实践是在其“信达雅”翻译原则的指导下进行的,不存在所谓的严复没有按照“信达雅”翻译标准进行实践的说法,所以“信达雅”与“达旨术”并不矛盾,二者是完美的统一体。不过,严复的“信达雅”翻译标准与“达旨”的翻译实践都有着明确的目的,具有强烈的功利性,且这种“功用”价值在其他价值之上。When it comes toYanfu's Three-character Translation Principle,the academic community always believes that“xin”means“faithful to the original text”;“da”means“smooth”;“ya”means“refined and elegant”.Based on the reinterpretationofthe introductory translation remarks of Evolution and Ethics and The Wealth of Nations,this studydraws the following conclusions:the true meaning of Yan Fu's Three-character Translation Principle isn t what academic world claims.Yan Fu's translation practice of“reaching the goal”is conducted under the guidance of his translation principle of“faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance”.Therefore,there is no contradiction between“faithfulness,expressiveness and elegance”and“adaptation approach”,which are a perfect unity.However,Yan Fu's Three-character Translation Principle and his Translation Adaption Approach have clear purpose,conveying intense utilitarianism which rises above any other value standard.This study provides a reference for the understanding and construction of the translation view of Yan Fu's utilitarianism.
