林语堂与《老残游记》英译:史实与文本

摘　　要：林语堂高度评价《老残游记》。他先于1935年节译了《老残游记初集》中的“大明湖听书”一节,1936年又正式出版《英译老残游记第二集及其他选译》,产生了较大影响。通过考察林语堂的“大明湖听书”片段英译,对其副文本与译文正文进行细致分析,以探究其翻译动机,并且呈现译文的优劣得失。Lin Yutang spoke highly of“Lao Can You Ji”.In 1935,he published“A Chinese Galli-Curci”,which was an English translation of the passages of“The Sing-Song Girl”in Lao Can You Ji,Part I.In 1936,he published A Nun of Taishan and Other Translations,in which the whole English translation of Lao Can You Ji,Part II was included.This paper makes a detailed analysis of its paratext as well as the translated text itself,aiming to know why Lin Yutang translated“A Chinese Galli-Curci”,and to make clear its merits and defects as well.
