摘 要:本文分析学习者英语议论文中论据使用数量和类型,以及对议论文整体质量的影响。根据Packer和Timpane(1997)的七种论据分类,本研究选取某大学100名非英语专业研究生议论文为语料,重点探讨学生使用论据的效果与缺陷。研究发现,学生所使用的论据集中在逻辑推理、示例以及已知事实这三种类型。同时,高低分组学生的论据使用存在一定差异。高分组学生使用了更多的论据类型及论证过程,论证更加丰富有效;低分组学生的论据缺少有效论据的五个特性,且更倾向将个人观点误用为论据,这些使用问题都直接影响了议论文整体质量。This study investigates and analyzes the use of evidence in argumentative essays of Chinese EFL learners as well as the relationship between the use of evidence and the overall quality of argumentative essays.Based on seven types of evidence classified by Packer&Timpane(1997),the study mainly examines the quality and problems of evidence use in argumentative essays written by 100 non-English major graduate students.It is found that the three most frequently used types of evidence are reasoning and logic,examples,known facts&shared belief.Moreover,there are some differences in the use of evidence between the high-score group and the low-score group.Essays of the high-score group used more types of evidence and more elaborate argumentation,which makes their essays more substantial and persuasive.Problems are more evident in the essays of the low-score group,which violate the five criteria of effective evidence proposed by Timpane&Packer(1997).Moreover,more students in the low-score group tend to use their opinions as evidence.These problems have direct impact on the overall quality of argumentative essays.
