目的顺应论视角下《射雕英雄传》英译研究

摘　　要：翻译是具有明确目的指向的跨语言跨文化实践活动。本文以目的顺应论为基础,结合语言顺应论,从委托者目的、原文作者创作目的、译者主体性、目的语读者需求与文化背景等维度,探讨《射雕英雄传》译者Anna Holmwood翻译策略的适切性。研究发现,非汉语母语背景的Holmwood表面上有悖于忠实原文的传统翻译原则,但从目的顺应论视角分析,Holmwood在很大程度上保留了小说的“中国性”,并尽力保证英语读者的阅读流畅性,较好地呈现了这一精彩的中国故事。Translation is a cross-cultural practice with a clear purpose.Based on the functionalist goal theory and the pragmatic adaptation theory,this paper explores the appropriateness of the translation strategies of Anna Holmwood,the translator of Legends of Condor Heroes,from the perspectives of the client’s purpose,the author’s creative purpose,the translator’s subjectivity,and the target language readers’needs and cultural background.This paper finds that Holmwood,with her non-native Chinese background,seems to be contrary to the traditional translation principle of being faithful to the original text.However,from the perspective of goal adaptation theory,Holmwood retains the“Chinese characteristics”of the novel to a large extent,ensuring the reading fluency of the English readers as much as possible,and telling beautifully the wonderful stories of China.
