摘　　要："新义熟词"是新闻英语中的一个常见现象,对阅读新闻英语构成了一定的困难。文章分析了多个新闻英语中新义熟词误译的原因,探讨了新闻英语中新义熟词的理解方法和翻译策略。文章认为,丰富的双重(原文和译文)语境知识可以帮助读者完成对新义熟词的正确理解与准确翻译。"Old words with new senses"are a common phenomenon in journalistic English,and they sometimes make it difficult for readers to understand news reports in English.This paper discusses how such words are comprehended and what translation strategies are adopted in journalistic English by analyzing the causes for mistranslating such words in multiple contexts.It is concluded that a wide knowledge of double contexts(source language&target language)will help readers with their understanding and translation of such words in journalistic English.
