《象牙门》里的“阅读”之喻与康拉德小说的主题互文

摘　　要：德拉布尔的《象牙之门》以两位主人公东南亚之行为情节构架,借人物视角展示20世纪80年代东南亚地区的社会动荡。围绕旅行展开的情节进程,评论界关注作品的写实成分,忽视德拉布尔借人物阅读行为与康拉德小说构建的互文主题及其历史隐喻。小说中德拉布尔借故事人物对康拉德小说的阅读/误读,将康拉德笔下19世纪殖民主题与20世纪渗透于东南亚地区的跨国资本主义现象加以并置,以揭示帝国主义和殖民主义在资本全球化时代的表现样式及其危害。Revolving round a quest motif and a journey plot,The Gates of Ivory(1991)had been recognized by critics as Margaret Drabble’s realistic documentation of Southeast Asia in the 1980 s.Realistic as it is,the novel is historically significant in its thematic deployment of the relationship between nineteenth-century colonialism and twentieth-century neo-colonialism.Concentrating on the novel’s depiction of characters’reading/misreading of Conrad’s fiction all the way along their respective journeys,the paper demonstrates the thematic parallel between Conrad’s intertext and The Gates of Ivory,revealing Drabble’s critique of capitalism and neo-colonialism via writing cross Conrad’s texts.
