传统共同体失落背景下主人公的自我再造——论贝娄的《寻找格林先生》

摘　　要：《寻找格林先生》是索尔·贝娄早期的杰出短篇小说,讲述了美国经济“大萧条”时期,作为政府救济金派发员的主人公格里布,在芝加哥黑人贫民窟找寻救济对象格林先生的艰辛过程。文章从共同体角度,揭示在物质主义、消费主义和实用主义盛行的美国现代社会,在以亲缘和地缘为核心纽带维系的传统共同体逐渐失落的大背景下,主人公作为一个美国边缘犹太知识分子所经历的身份危机,及其在犹太族裔文化与美国主流文化的碰撞与融合下,他的自我身份再造和对人生意义的顿悟。Looking for Mr.Green is one of Saul Bellow’s early short stories,which narrates the arduous process of Grebe’s looking for the reliever Mr.Green in Chicago’s black ghetto during the Great Depression period.From the perspective of community,this paper aims to reveal American marginalized Jewish intellects’identity crisis represented by Grebe and his epiphany and recreation on self-identity based on the collision and integration of Jewish ethnic culture and American mainstream culture,under the background of the loss of traditional community which features kinship and locality,particularly in the modernized American society which is prevalent in materialism,consumerism and pragmatism.
