神性的女奴——形象学视域下《碧奴》英译本研究

摘  要:《碧奴》是中国作家苏童参与世界性出版项目“重述神话”出炉的第一本小说,本书重述了孟姜女哭长城的神话,后由美国翻译家葛浩文译入英语世界。本研究在当代比较文学形象学理论的关照下对比细读《碧奴》的原文本与葛浩文英译本,从文本词汇、等级关系及情节三个层面,解读葛浩文在英译本《碧奴》中偏离原作的“异域他者形象”。研究发现原作中碧奴身上代表社会底层的粗俗和愚昧人性特点被淡化,译者通过灵活的翻译策略使其在“寻夫之旅”方面被重塑为一个符合西方文化语境期待的女神形象,译者建构的异域形象折射出译者自我对东方神话的期待和想象。Binu and the Great Wall,written by Su Tong,is the first novel retelling Chinese traditional myths and legends under the support of world publishing project“The Myths Series”.The book retells the myth of Meng Jiangnv and was later translated into English by American translator Goldblatt Howard.This study compares the original text of Binu and the Great Wall with Goldblatt's English translation in the light of contemporary imagology theory,and focuses on the hetero-image of Binu alienated from the original text at three levels:vocabulary,hierarchical relationships and plot.The study finds that the vulgar and ignorant human characteristics of Binu in the original work,which represent the lower class of society are diluted,and the translator's flexible translation strategy reshapes her into a goddess that meets the expectations of Western culture in terms of her“journey to find husband”.The foreign image constructed by the translator reflects the translator's self expectation and imagination of Chinese myth.
