On English Translation of Dai Wangshu’s Poetry

摘　　要：戴望舒诗歌的英文翻译散见于哈罗德·阿克顿和陈世骧合编的《现代中国诗选》、伦敦的《议程》诗歌季刊、利大英《中国现代主义诗人戴望舒其人其诗》、叶维廉编译的《防空洞里的抒情诗》、奚密编译的《中国现代诗选》、贺麦晓和齐特内尔编译的《中国现代诗歌之花——民国时期诗选》等诗集中,目前只有陈玉麟翻译的《戴望舒诗选》一本英文专集。各种版本翻译文本质量优劣各异。鉴于戴望舒在中国现代诗歌史中的重要地位,其诗歌的英文翻译还有重译的可能性和必要性。English translation of Dai Wangshu’s poems can be seen in different anthologies of Chinese poetry and literary magazines such as Modern Chinese Poetry(co-edited by Harold Acton and Chen Shih-hsiang), poetry magazine Agenda, Dai Wangshu-The Life and Poetry of a Chinese Modernist(written by Gregory Lee), Lyrics from Shelters: Modern Chinese Poetry 1930-1950(translated by Wai-lim Yip), An Anthology of Modern Chinese Poetry(translated by Michelle Yeh) and The Flowering of Modern Chinese Poetry: An Anthology of Verse from the Republican Period(tr.by Herbert Batt and Sheldon Zitner), etc. till now Selected Poems of Dai Wangshu(tr. by Chen Yulin) is the only English book of Dai Wangshu’s poems. The quality of various versions is different. Due to Dai’s great position in the history of modern Chinese poetry, it’s possible and necessary to retranslate his poems into English.
