《围城》英译本中的“非强制明晰化”翻译技法研究

摘　　要：钱钟书先生的著名作品《围城》在中国现代小说中极具代表性,其英文译本Fortress Besieged是美国学者珍妮·凯利与茅国权的合译成果,为外国读者提供了阅读这部佳作的机会,可谓中国现代小说英译的成功案例之一,学界也因此对其进行了多角度研究。然而,《围城》英译本中的“明晰化”翻译技法尚未得到充分的关注。基于让-保罗·维奈和让·达贝尔内对明晰化的定义以及金佳·克劳迪对非强制明晰化的描述,本文针对《围城》英译本中的“非强制明晰化”翻译技法进行了描述性翻译研究,分析了非强制明晰化在译文中出现的层面和形式,以及译者使用这些非强制明晰化的方法,并探讨了译者运用非强制明晰化的动机。研究发现,译者在翻译过程中针对原文的不同层面,通过多种方法使用了不同形式的“非强制明晰化”翻译技法,其原因与译者的整体翻译策略有关。Weicheng is a famous work of Qian Zhongshu and is also a representative of modern Chinese fiction.Its English translation Fortress Besieged was completed by American scholars Jeanne Kelly and Nathan K.Mao,which has exposed overseas readers to this excellent work.It can thus be regarded as a successful case of English translation of modern Chinese fiction,and the academic circle has studied it from diverse angles.However,the translation technique of"explicitation"in Fortress Besieged has not received enough attention.Based on the definition of explicitation proposed by Jean-Paul Vinay and Jean Darbelnet and Kinga Klaudy's description of optional explicitation,this paper conducted a descriptive study on the"optional explicitations"in Fortress Besieged by analyzing these optional explicitations'occasions and forms,and the translators'methods in applying them.Besides,this paper also discussed the translators'motivation of using optional explicitation.It has been found that during the translation process,the translators used different forms of optional explicitations in various methods for different occasions of the source text,and the reason is related to the translators'overall translation strategy.
