摘 要:从晚清民国时期的术语翻译与比较研究入手,借助原始资料的解析,梳理“唐人传奇”概念从古典义向今义演化的具体过程,以此展现“唐人传奇”是什么、如何是、为何是。这一过程的发生发展,除鲁迅的个人作用外,至少涉及三个因素:概念古典义的理论基础、文学全球化的环境风气、本土批评方式的学理机制。“传奇”概念的古典义与罗曼史具有一定的共通性;进入全球化时代后,在西方小说观的强势辐射下,日本将“传奇”与“Romance”(罗曼史)对译,中国将“唐人小说之风”混同于浪漫主义。在面对外来理论与研究时,国人一方面表现出对古典文学研究的现代性追求,另一方面沿用了偏重时代因素的本土批评方式,两者在互动缠绕中建构出今天的“唐人传奇”概念,成为“知识”而干扰学术研究。The modern understanding of the concept of tang chuanqi(literally, transmission of the strange in the Tang Dynasty) is the result of its evolution in the modern times. Except for Lu Xun’s influence, the changing understanding of the concept involves at least three important factors: the theoretical foundation of the classical meaning of the concept, the globalized literary ecology, and the academic mechanism of local thought. This study tries to delineate the meaning evolution of the concept chuanqi from the perspectives of the terminology translation in the Late Qing and the Republic period. Lu Xun’s A Brief History of Chinese Fiction should be contextualized along with the Japanese translation of chuanqi into romance and Chinese equivalization of the spirit of Tang-Dynasty tales to Romanticism at that time. It is the combined effects from both the borrowing of Western conceptual understanding and the delving into traditional Chinese criticism that constructed the contemporary understanding of the concept Tang-Dynasty chuanqi.
